HIVE ZINE ISSUE 2: THIS IS FINE | LIFE
We collated and curated our submissions for issue 2 of the zine, and got stuck into printing. Here's some BTS photos.
The idea behind the theme of this issue 'this is fine' was inspired by the meme of the same name, you've probably seen it at some point on the internet. It's the one with the yellow dog wearing a hat in a room that's on fire, and the little speech bubble next to it that says 'This is fine.'
My concept/reasons for putting this idea forward to the zine group was because it had a broad application to society as a whole, politically and socially, at the time we were trying to choose a topic for issue 2 (back in early September).
We'd been inundated with news about the Amazon Rainforest burning, getting updates on Brexit, protests were intensifying around the world on a series of issues + the whole climate change issue as a whole; there was a lot going on in the world, a lot of it wasn't great. Given all of that, I felt this theme encapsulated a lot of the anxiety being felt throughout communities around globe. (Later, we found a new relevancy given the fires that were raging around Australia.) But despite everything that was happening/ and acknowledging the gravity of it, my intention was to also provide hope and tools/tips/action on what regular people like ourselves could do to help (even just a little) and make a difference.

I'm so happy with how it turned out, I can't wait to start issue 3 in 2020!
I'm working on making an issuu account for the zine so that it can be accessed easily/online. I'll keep you updates on how that goes! Because at the heart of it, that's the entire point of what creating zines is about; making content we care about, sharing it with whomever is interested/ making it accessible to the community, using that content to start conversations and build connections.
